Job summary

Pace Academy is seeking a GSRP PreK Lead Teacher to join our team. This full-time role focuses on delivering high-quality early education for preschoolers under Michigan state guidelines.

The ideal candidate holds a Michigan teaching certificate with ZS/ZA endorsement, a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, and 3–5 years of relevant experience, with DHS requirements met. This position requires active collaboration with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan teaching certification with a ZS or ZA endorsement.
• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education with specialization in pre-k teaching.
• Minimum of three–five (3-5) years of successful work experience with young children in a group.
• Meet all requirements established by the Michigan Department of Human and Health Services (DHHS).

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct daily activities according to the interests and abilities of the children in assigned groups.
• Plan and conduct structured and unstructured activities in a variety of curricular areas, offering several choices each day.
• Stimulate interest and creative abilities of the children to promote intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
• Post weekly lesson plans.
• Maintain an orderly physical environment conducive to growth and development of children.
• Observe and record significant individual and group behavior.
• Communicate with parents regarding their child’s development and behavior.
• Inform the Director of pre-k programs of pertinent information related to parents and children.
• Understand and maintain goals and objectives of the preschool program.
• Assemble and bring snacks and lunch from kitchen to classroom, supervise meals, and clean up after meals.
• Conduct home visits as required.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

NATURE OF THE POSITION: This position is responsible for the instructional program for the subject matter assigned. The Lead Teacher must provide students of the Academy’s preschool program with instructional tools to develop skills required to successfully meet the State of Michigan education requirements. The scope of all authorities includes all issues or concerns regarding educating children.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires frequent standing and walking throughout building and school grounds. Ability to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend occasionally. Occasionally lifts and carry materials or items weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to use senses – sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Ability to type; uses hand/eye coordination for typing and data entry.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Satisfactory criminal background check.
• Must have a valid Driver’s license.
• Must meet the DHS vaccination requirement(s).

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

• Must have knowledge of child development.
• Must have knowledge of early childhood experience.
• Respond to all levels of supervision.
