Job summary

The Polar Express experience at Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is seeking a Special Events Actor- Onboard to bring the story to life aboard the train at Bryson City, NC.

You will portray characters, learn choreographed routines, and work with a team to deliver a magical guest experience for guests of all ages while staying in character and engaging with the audience.

Qualifications

• Previous performance experience with THE POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN RIDE™ is preferred, but not required.
• Previous theatrical experience is preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to portray Christmas spirit and always remain in character.
• Be familiar with the story of THE POLAR EXPRESS™.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Has the ability to regulate emotions and maintains a positive outlook.
• Must possess organizational skill with the ability to multi-task while prioritizing workload.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule with night, weekend, and holiday hours.

• Complete a variety of logistical tasks as they pertain to the specific event you are working on.
• Responsible for boarding and deboarding of passengers, depending on position.
• Responsible for learning and performing a choreographed routine.
• Responsible for learning and following THE POLAR EXPRESS™ script throughout the event.
• Responsible for adhering to acting standards.
• Set up and break down the event you are scheduled to work on.
• Enthusiastically represents Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and THE POLAR EXPRESS™ brand.
• Openly accepts feedback from guests, supervisors, and teammates.
• Willingness to learn new things and function as part of an effective team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation: $11- $15 hourly

Job Summary

THE POLAR EXPRESS™ is a unique experience for children of all ages. It is magical and memorable. Things that make the magic and the memories are the elements GSMR provides that match the events described in the story. These include the engine, the cars, the lights, the music and cheerful employees. Bringing much of the book and movie to life is the job of our Special Events Actor. It is important for all Special Events Actors to know their duties and responsibilities and execute them in a timely and effective manner. Our goal is to present a quality experience to all THE POLAR EXPRESS™ guests.

Work Environment

Will vary depending on the character(s) being portrayed, to include but not limited to on board a moving train, walking throughout cars, and/or stationary at the North Pole event site.

• Chef/Waiter (combined)

Level of direct engagement with the public with vary based on performing role.
