Job summary

The Des Moines Public School District's MCCOMBS MIDDLE in Des Moines, IA is seeking a GSA Sponsor (Stipend). This part-time position supports LGBTQ+ students by providing guidance, safe spaces, and leadership development within clubs, supported by Iowa Safe Schools resources.

You will collaborate with community advocates, coordinate workshops, and help cultivate an inclusive school climate across activities and district programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an Associate’s Degree.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
• Skills in leadership, organization, problem solving, and human relations.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or willingness to acquire these skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary oversight and leadership for the program.
• Submit annual activity plan to activities office as requested by district activities personnel.
• Coordinate and facilitate workshops scheduled for students concerning a variety of high school and middle school issues.
• Plan field trips such as college visits and meetings with community partners.
• Organize and plan cultural and academic field trips.
• Participate in mandatory sessions for students and staff meetings.
• Check in with students weekly concerning academic performance and behavior.
• Meet with students as a group weekly/monthly.
• Attend district-wide meetings as requested.
