Job summary

Des Moines Public School District East High is seeking a GSA Sponsor (Stipend) to support LGBTQ+ students and foster safe spaces within clubs. The sponsor will guide student leaders, connect with community advocates, and coordinate activities in collaboration with Iowa Safe Schools and district staff.

The role emphasizes outreach, planning workshops, and field trips while maintaining confidentiality and high ethical standards.

Qualifications

• A minimum of an Associate’s Degree.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication.
• Skills in leadership, organization, problem solving, and human relations.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
• Currently involved in community organizations.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary oversight and leadership for the program.
• Submit annual activity plan to activities office as requested by district activities personnel.
• Coordinate and facilitate workshops scheduled for students concerning a variety of high school and middle school issues.
• Plan field trips such as college visits and meetings with community partners.
• Organize and plan cultural and academic field trips.
• Participate in mandatory sessions for students and staff meetings.
• Check in with students on a weekly basis concerning their academic performance, assignments, general behavior and conduct, and problems in or out of school.
• Meet with students as a group on a weekly/monthly basis.
• Attend meetings as directed by the district activity office, monthly or more frequently as appropriate.
• Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, flexibilityand responsiveness.
• Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
• Attend district-wide meetings as requested
• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned
