About Outlander VC
Outlander VC is an early-stage venture capital firm leading pre‑seed investments in category‑defining founders across AI, robotics, defense, healthcare, commerce, and enterprise software. Guided by our proprietary 20‑Point Human Factors Analysis Founder Framework, we invest beyond consensus — often in overlooked markets. Validated across more than 170 investments, the framework has contributed to top‑decile performance across four funds and 19 billion‑dollar companies. We combine founder experience with institutional discipline to identify transformative businesses early and help build enduring companies. As our portfolio scales, one of the highest‑leverage ways we support founders is by connecting them to the right venture firms for their next round — and this role exists to make that connective tissue a durable, strategic strength of the firm.
Position Summary
The Growth Lead, Venture Ecosystem, is a senior, relationship‑driven role responsible for building, deepening, and overseeing Outlander’s relationships with other venture capital firms — co‑investment firms, syndicate partners, and downstream (Series A through growth) firms — with the explicit goal of supporting and accelerating our portfolio companies’ fundraises. You will own Outlander’s venture ecosystem: mapping the landscape, cultivating trusted relationships across firms, and translating those relationships into warm, well‑matched introductions that help our founders raise successful follow‑on rounds. Success in this role means Outlander is regarded across the venture community as a high‑signal, go‑to co‑investment and syndicate partner — and that our portfolio companies consistently reach the right firms, faster.
What You’ll Do
Build and own Outlander’s venture‑firm network
- Own the top of funnel: build and manage the pipeline for establishing new relationships with senior and junior partners at best‑fit early‑stage and late‑stage venture firms.
- Develop and manage relationships with other venture firms across stages (pre‑seed through growth) and sectors relevant to our portfolio, positioning Outlander as a trusted early‑stage quality signal.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for the downstream firms — Series A/B and growth funds — most likely to lead or participate in our portfolio companies’ follow‑on rounds, cultivating relationships with the specific partners and decision‑makers who matter.
- Map the venture landscape: maintain a living, data‑rich view of firms’ investment theses, stage focus, check sizes, sector preferences, recent activity, and key contacts.
- Maintain a platform support focus : desire to focus on venture ecosystem relationships relevant to existing Outlander portcos; this is not an investment track role.
Support and accelerate portfolio company fundraises
- Prepare companies to raise: coordinate with portfolio founders and Outlander investment partners to sharpen the narrative, build target venture‑firm lists, refine materials, and set a clear process and timeline for each round.
- Make the right connections: match each raising company to the venture firms best suited to their stage, sector, and story, and make warm, well‑qualified introductions to the appropriate partners at other firms.
- Manage the process: coordinate introductions, track pipeline and status, gather and relay feedback from firms, and help remove friction to improve round outcomes and speed.
- Close the loop: track and report fundraise outcomes attributable to ecosystem relationships — introductions made, meetings taken, term sheets received, and rounds closed.
Own ecosystem strategy, intelligence, and tracking
- Define strategy: help set Outlander’s overall approach to the venture ecosystem, including the strategy for introducing portfolio companies to trusted ecosystem venture firms — matched on business vertical, fundraise stage, average ticket size, and fund thesis suitability.
- Deliver intelligence: provide the investment team and founders with regular, useful insight on who is deploying capital, who is raising, and how best to position each company for its next round.
- Build the system of record: own and maintain Outlander’s venture ecosystem in the firm’s CRM — firms, people, theses, relationship strength, and interaction history — keeping the data accurate, current, and actionable.
- Manage and automate the CRM: run Outlander’s CRM for venture‑ecosystem tracking and stand up automations for top‑of‑funnel import, triaging, and meeting‑status tracking.
Drive syndicates, partnerships, and co‑branded events
- Oversee co‑branded opportunities: ideate and triage co‑branded accelerators, conferences, dinners, and other events — proposing opportunities and evaluating those received from other venture firms — in accordance with Outlander’s defined ecosystem strategy.
- Expand portfolio capital access: develop co‑investment and syndicate relationships with other venture firms that broaden Outlander’s reach and give our founders access to a wider, higher‑quality set of venture firms.
Collaborate cross‑functionally
- Align with firm strategy: work closely with the head of platform & operations and investment partners to ensure ecosystem activity maps to fund strategy and real portfolio needs.
- Represent the brand: act as a credible, senior ambassador for Outlander across the venture ecosystem.
What You’ll Bring
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in venture capital or startup fundraising.
- A strong, active network across venture firms (ideally spanning seed through growth) — and a demonstrated ability to build new, authentic relationships quickly.
- Deep fluency in how rounds come together: fund theses, stage dynamics, deal structures, and what it takes to run a successful raise from first meeting to close.
- A track record of relationship‑driven outcomes — introductions that led to closed rounds, partnerships, or meaningful pipeline.
- Exceptional communication skills — written and verbal — with the credibility to engage founders and senior venture partners alike.
- A systems‑oriented, data‑disciplined approach to build and manage a large relationship network supported by technology tools.
- Technical savvy — hands‑on experience with CRMs and their associated Claude MCPs, and a track record of building AI automations to streamline workflows.
- High ownership and self‑direction, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑moving, entrepreneurial environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed to build relationships and represent Outlander in‑market.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience at a venture firm in a business development or platform specific capacity supporting existing portfolio company fundraises.
