Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC seeks a founding Backend Engineer for the Growth team in NYC. You will own services powering paywalls, tiering, onboarding, messaging, referrals, and checkout while building robust analytics and feature flags.

You’ll partner with mobile engineers and product managers to ship end-to-end experiences across the funnel, from acquisition to retention. Hybrid work is offered with a US-based team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development with strong coding skills and architecture experience.
• Demonstrated autonomy in distributed teams with timezone considerations.
• Excellent asynchronous written communication to convey decisions clearly.
• Comfort with ambiguity and shipping to learn, focusing on outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend behind growth bets: paywalls, tiering, onboarding, in-app messaging, referrals, checkout bundles.
• Extend instrumentation: feature flags, experiment assignment, event tracking for data-driven bets.
• Work end-to-end across funnel: acquisition, activation, retention, not a single surface.
• Design API contracts with mobile engineers and PMs to support experiments and features.
• Operate with high agency: decide, write, ship, escalate when necessary.
• Set patterns for US engineering: async comms, on-call, review habits.
