Job summary

Prodigy at Acadiana in Youngsville, LA, is seeking an Assistant Preschool Teacher to foster a nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment.

You will assist in creating and implementing lesson activities, observe children daily, and support with portfolios, newsletters, and documentation while collaborating with a co-teacher and other staff.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, be 18+, and be able to meet state childcare standards; CDA is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• CDA is preferred for candidate advantage.
• 1 year of experience in a licensed childcare facility is required.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) is preferred.
• Familiarity with NAEYC standards is advantageous.
• Continuity of care knowledge is beneficial.
• Strong organizational skills are essential.
• Ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations and effective communication skills.
• Familiarity with accreditation processes is a plus.
• College coursework or higher is a plus.
• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; capable of lifting up to 40 lbs.
• VPK certification is preferred if applicable.
• Completion of the listed childcare trainings within specified timeframes as described in the job posting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development and implementation of lesson plan activities.
• Assess and observe children daily.
• Adjust learning goals for each child as needed.
• Maintain a healthy and safe environment.
• Collaborate with co-teacher and other staff members.
• Communicate with teachers, staff, and parents professionally.
• Assist with creating classroom newsletters.
• Assist with classroom documentation.
• Assist with building and maintaining classroom portfolios.
• Be familiar with early childhood theorists and philosophies such as Piaget, Vygotsky, Reggio Amelia, Montessori and others.
• Participate in at least 25 hours of professional development per year.
