Job summary

USAble Life is seeking a Group Underwriter IV to assess risk and set rates for Life, Disability, and Worksite products in a remote role.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree and have at least 5 years of underwriting experience, with specific expertise in group insurance and worksite products. Pay Transparency:

Our salary ranges are structured to provide opportunities for growth and advancement within a role. As a result, most new hires are placed between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on qualifications and experience, while the top of the range is generally reserved for employees who have demonstrated sustained expertise and performance in the position. The starting base salary range for the Group Underwriter IV is $79,200 to $95,500. The full salary range is $79,200 to $110,900, Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

  • Conducts risk assessment and selection for small, mid and large case market on Life & Disability, and Worksite products.
  • Produces rates for new groups using company proposal system.
  • Prepares formal proposals and renewals using word processing, spreadsheet tools and software as applicable.
  • Assists in the preparation of RFP response.
  • Verifies rates on sold cases.
  • Assist in training lower level underwriters and sales staff.
  • Works on special product or rating projects as required.
  • Uses knowledge of formulas to determine when deviation is necessary and recommendations alternatives.
  • Assesses risk and produces rates for new groups with advanced levels of autonomy.
  • Completes annual renewals for all products and performs related maintenance tasks.
  • Services current group clients including benefit changes, reporting, and response to telephone and email inquiries.
  • Verifies sold case data including final rating.
  • Provides training and mentoring to underwriting and sales staff.
  • Performs projects and/or SME assignments
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of group insurance and worksite products
  • Advanced knowledge of Life and Disability underwriting
  • Advanced understanding of underwriting principles and rating methodology.
  • Demonstrated capability to apply experience rating formulas for all products.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of underwriting experience
  • Life, Disability, and/or Supplemental product industry experience
  • Or equivalent military experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • LOMA Certification
  • HIAA
