Job description

Overview

Under the supervision of the educational director of the center, the group teacher shall be responsible for working within the framework of the sponsoring agency of the day care center, carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures, observing the schedules, and adhering to its personnel policies and practices.

Responsibilities

1. Supervise the planning and execution of a program providing day care for children, considering their educational, social, developmental, and health needs, as well as individual needs.
2. Ensure equipment and materials are accessible and in good condition to encourage constructive use by children.
3. Report or remove damaged or hazardous equipment to the director or designated person for necessary action.
4. Plan and supervise an appropriate classroom furniture arrangement to promote optimal program functioning.
5. Contribute to overall planning for the effective use of shared space in relation to the entire center program.
6. Utilize community resources to enrich the children’s educational program.
7. Develop educational goals suitable for the children's age and developmental level, facilitating future educational opportunities.
8. Share knowledge of the sponsoring agency and community with classroom associates.
9. Support the professional growth of classroom associates through regular individual and group conferences based on daily observations and training applications.
10. Assist in the annual evaluation of classroom associates’ job performance in cooperation with the director.
11. Ensure equitable sharing of responsibilities among all classroom personnel.
12. Create a plan for sharing information about children and the program with parents, involving teachers and associates.
13. Attend and participate in parent meetings.
14. Maintain confidentiality regarding information about parents and children.
15. Foster good working relationships and objectivity with staff members.
16. Plan and conduct regular group conferences with associates, encouraging their participation in professional development activities.
17. Discuss personal professional performance objectively in supervisory conferences with the director, using these as guidance sources.
18. Maintain records necessary for effective administration, program development, and work documentation.
19. Take responsibility for administrative functions in the director’s absence.
20. Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the above and program needs.

Qualifications

• The group teacher shall meet the requirements set by the NYSDOH, ACS, and the sponsoring agency for the day care center.
• Possess an Early Childhood certification for Birth-2 years.
