Overview
Under the supervision of the educational director of the center, the group teacher shall be responsible for working within the framework of the sponsoring agency of the day care center, carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures, observing the schedules, and adhering to its personnel policies and practices.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the planning and execution of a program providing day care for children, considering their educational, social, developmental, and health needs, as well as individual needs.
- Ensure equipment and materials are accessible and in good condition to encourage constructive use by children.
- Report or address any damaged or hazardous equipment to the director or designated person for necessary action.
- Plan and supervise an appropriate classroom furniture arrangement to promote optimal program functioning.
- Contribute to the overall planning for the effective use of shared space in relation to the center's program.
- Utilize community resources to enrich the children's educational program.
- Develop a program with sound educational goals suitable for the children's age and developmental level, enabling them to maximize future educational opportunities.
- Share knowledge and understanding of the sponsoring agency and community with classroom associates.
- Support the professional growth of classroom associates through regular individual and group conferences based on daily performance observations and application of new skills.
- Assist in the annual evaluation of classroom associates' job performance in collaboration with the director.
- Ensure equitable sharing of responsibilities among all classroom personnel across all program areas.
- Create a plan for sharing information about children and the program with parents, involving teachers and associates.
- Attend and participate in group parent meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all information about parents and children.
- Foster good working relationships and objective attitudes with staff members.
- Plan and conduct regular group conferences with classroom associates, encouraging their participation in professional development activities.
- Discuss personal professional performance objectively during scheduled supervisory conferences with the director, using these as opportunities for guidance.
- Maintain records necessary for effective program administration, child development, and work documentation, sharing them with relevant staff.
- Take responsibility for administrative functions in the director's absence.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the role and program needs.
Qualifications
- The group teacher shall meet the requirements set by the NYSDOH, ACS, and the sponsoring agency for the day care center.
- Hold an Early Childhood certification Birth-2.
