The J in Overland Park is seeking a part-time swim instructor to teach Red Cross–aligned lessons for children from 6 months old up. Sessions run Tuesday/Thursday evenings 5pm–7pm and Sundays 12pm–2pm, with pay starting at $11–$13 per 30‑minute lesson based on experience.
A flexible, customer‑facing role, welcoming enthusiastic team players. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction, tracking attendance and progress, and upholding safety guidelines in the aquatic program.
Description
The J offers American Red Cross group swim lessons for children age 6 months and up. We offer classes for the beginner to the experienced swimmer who may be working on stroke proficiency and endurance.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings 5pm-7pm and/or Sundays from 12pm-2pm
Requirements
Requires constant talking and hearing to communicate instructions with students, constant repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination to demonstrate strokes as well as frequent standing. Will occasionally walk, lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs., climb ladders in and out of pool, and stoop/crouch. This position also involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions depending on the season, and varying pool temperatures. Good vision to surveil assigned zones and identify patrons in need of assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
