Job Purpose

The Group Supervisor / Group Leader will implement and lead all daily OST program activities in the after-school and summer programs for the assigned age group. This includes supervising, mentoring, and engaging school-age youth in all programmatic activities. Also responsible for the preparation and distribution of snacks/meals to students and facilitating clean-up duties. Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing creative recreational, social, educational, and cultural group activities, and for implementing specific Project Based Learning (PBL) activities daily.

St. Barnabas: 6300 Buist Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19142

Cayuga: 4400 N. Reese Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140

Responsibilities

  1. Lead and engage all assigned youth in daily recreational, social, and educational activities.
  2. Assist the OST Director with recruitment and registration of children and youth.
  3. Ensure ratio standards are met for the assigned group.
  4. Assist children with sign-in/sign-out procedures.
  5. Prepare and distribute snacks/meals daily.
  6. Provide tutoring during the "Help with Homework" segment.
  7. Work with the OST Director to create and implement PBL activities aligned with PA Common Core Standards.
  8. Coordinate program schedules and activities with the OST Director.
  9. Ensure availability of materials and resources for daily programming.
  10. Arrive punctually, motivated, and enthusiastic.
  11. Supervise children/youth on field trips.
  12. Participate in 12 hours of professional development annually.
  13. Build positive relationships with children, parents, colleagues, and teachers.
  14. Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of the agency's mission and philosophy.
  2. Minimum AA or BS in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education (with at least 30 credit hours in Early Childhood Education), or Human Services.
  3. At least 2 years of experience working with children.
  4. Valid FBI, Child Abuse, and Criminal Background Checks (within the year).
  5. Ability to develop and implement age-appropriate, creative curricula.
  6. Motivated to learn and grow professionally.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills to relate well to children, staff, and parents.
  8. Ability to serve as a positive role model.
  9. Enthusiastic and passionate about working with children.

Physical Requirements

Occasional standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, reaching, climbing stairs, talking, and hearing. Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs occasionally.

Supervision

May supervise consultants, youth workers, and volunteers at the discretion of the Director.
