Job summary

Farmers Home Furniture is seeking a Group Manager to recruit, lead, and develop Store Managers across the stores, driving sales growth, profitability, customer relationships, and operational excellence.

You will supervise staff, manage store groups, analyze sales and KPIs, conduct on-site visits, ensure policy adherence, and foster community involvement while upholding the company's HOME values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management or Business Administration field.
  • Seven (7) years experience in retail management or supervision.
  • Valid State Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Oversees and manages assigned group of stores, store managers, and support staff; plans work schedules and coordinates activities.
  • Ensures stores and the group are meeting established profit and sales goals.
  • Promotes and sets high expectations for Community Involvement initiatives that build trust and loyalty, enhance brand recognition, and drives foot traffic and sales.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment of Store Managers and Store Manager Trainees to build a strong talent pipeline.
  • Develop Store Managers to actively recruit, develop, and retain top talent for all store-level positions.
  • Monitors, reviews, and analyzes daily, weekly, and/or monthly sales reports, KPIs, and credit reports for assigned group of stores.
  • Conducts detailed on-site store visits to examine merchandise presentations, inventory, cash handling, and operations.
  • Conducts sales, credit, and operational reviews for assigned stores to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Ensures store management is trained in profit, scheduling, warehousing, and inventory control.
  • Monitors payroll to identify discrepancies and establish monthly budgets.
  • Conducts meetings with Store Managers to review campaigns, promotions, and policies.
  • Maintains open communication with upper management and store staff.

Job description

The Group Manager recruits, leads and develops independent Store Managers through coaching and support, driving integrity, accountability, and performance. They focus on sales growth, profitability, customer relationships, and managing bad debt while ensuring operational excellence and community involvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Oversees and manages assigned group of stores, store managers, and support staff; plans work schedules and coordinates activities.
  • Ensures stores and the group are meeting established profit and sales goals.
  • Promotes and sets high expectations for Community Involvement initiatives that build trust and loyalty, enhance brand recognition, and drives foot traffic and sales which all align with company values.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment of Store Managers and Store Manager Trainees to build a strong talent pipeline, ensure cultural alignment, and support consistent, long-term business success across all stores.
  • Develop Store Managers to actively recruit, develop, and retain top talent for all store-level positions, ensuring strong succession pipelines and minimizing staffing gaps.
  • Monitors, reviews, and analyzes daily, weekly, and/or monthly sales reports, profit and loss statements, KPIs, and credit reports for assigned group of stores to identify any potential problems or deficiencies in sales, store operations or credit/accounts receivable collections. Included in this review of performance metrics is to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure accountability.
  • Conducts detailed on-site store visits to examine the condition of merchandise presentations and displays, tagging, cleanliness, cash handling, bookkeeping, warehouse and delivery, inventory management, personnel, customer service, credit procedures, company vehicles, building condition and appearance, and other aspects of conducting business.
  • Conducts sales, credit, and operational reviews for assigned stores to ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures; provides training in specific areas highlighted in the reviews.
  • Ensures store management is trained in all areas including, but not limited to, maintaining an acceptable profit, employee scheduling, delegation of duties, warehousing, payroll and inventory control, ordering merchandise, displaying merchandise, cycle inventory counts, advertising, sales management, and resolving customer complaints.
  • Monitors and analyzes the payroll of assigned stores to identify discrepancies and errors; works with assigned store managers to establish monthly payroll budgets.
  • Conducts meetings with their Store Managers on a routine basis to inform and instruct on new advertising campaigns, sales promotions, and/or review of operational and credit policies and procedures that reinforce operational excellence, sales growth, and profitability.
  • Conducts staff meetings; attends conferences, meetings, seminars, workshops, Group Manager Meetings, and training sessions as appropriate.
  • Maintains a work environment free of legally prohibited discriminatory practices and sexual harassment.
  • Prepares and/or receives a variety of forms, logs, requests, records, reports, correspondence, and other documents associated with daily responsibilities of this position; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, maintains, and/or takes other action as appropriate.
  • Operates a personal computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, telephone, or other equipment necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
  • Applies company management systems, including Standards for Success, Issue Based Management, and Store Visit Reports, to maintain consistency and drive store performance.
  • Fosters a positive, collaborative culture by celebrating achievements, recognizing contributions, and encouraging professional development among Store Managers and staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining open, two-way communication—proactively sharing thoughts, concerns, and recommendations with upper management, while also effectively communicating and reinforcing programs, policies, and procedures to Store Managers.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Management or Business Administration field; seven (7) years experience in retail management or supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid State Driver’s License required.
