Job summary

Oregon Youth Authority is seeking a Group Life Coordinator 2 for Camp Florence Youth Transitional Facility in Florence, Oregon. This permanent, full-time position oversees youth activities, enforces policies, and coordinates transportation for programming.

Qualifications

  • GLC2 requires a high school diploma or GED plus six months full-time experience observing, evaluating, developing and monitoring human behavior, or a certificate/associate degree in behavioral science, education, criminal justice or related field.
  • GLC1 under-fill requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years or older with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Physical Abilities Test (PAT) is required with specified physical capabilities.

Job description

Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is seeking qualified candidates to join our team as Group Life Coordinator 2 (GLC2) at Camp Florence Youth Transitional Facility.

Location: Florence, Oregon – Camp Florence

Salary Range: $23.73 - $29.90 hourly non‑PERS – $28.53 - $36.10 hourly non‑PERS (GLC2). GLC1 range: $18.37 - $21.90 hourly non‑PERS.

Contract Type: Employee Position – Permanent, Full‑time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily activities and ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and rules.
  • Transport youth as required for programming, appointments or community‑related activities.
  • Build strong rapport with youth, addressing and redirecting behavior.
  • Model and reinforce pro‑social skills and support youth in working toward their individual goals.
  • Coaching, confronting and correcting youth behavior as necessary.
  • Observe and document youth behavior, participation in programs and maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor youth for potential health and safety risks, including suicide prevention.
  • Conduct security inspections of youth living units and perform searches.
  • Administer medication to youth under the indirect supervision of medical staff and maintain contact with medical staff to ensure appropriate medical care.

Under‑fill Opportunities: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for a GLC1 may be considered for an under‑filled position until they reach the minimum qualifications for a GLC2. Under‑fill training will not exceed one year.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a 24‑hour operating facility, including night shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
  • Work in a tobacco‑free environment.
  • Adhering to the dress code of the specific work site.
  • Frequent exposure to verbal abuse, threats and impulsive, rebellious or assaultive youth.
  • Use of reasonable force may be required to maintain the safety of staff and youth.
  • Physical standards for vision, hearing, dexterity, push/pull, running, and jogging are required.
  • Transport youth as requested; if in a security position, operate state vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • GLC2: High school diploma, GED or higher level education; six months full‑time experience observing, evaluating, developing and monitoring human behavior; or a certificate/associate degree in behavioral science, education, criminal justice or related field.
  • GLC1 (under‑fill): High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Physical Abilities Test (PAT) required. PAT includes: ability to handle, feel, and have finger dexterity using both hands; move, carry or hold objects weighing from 6 lbs up to 165 lbs, moving a maximum of 54 feet; kneel, bend, turn and stand, turn and sit, reach and crawl; perform 15 step‑ups on a 12‑inch stepping platform; run or jog 100 yards; hold body weight in the push‑up position for 50 seconds; hold a 6lb medicine ball at chest level for 40 seconds; complete the circuit outlined above two times with a 1‑minute break between sessions; acceptable vision of at least 20/30 (with or without correction); binaural hearing in ranges from 500 to 2000Hz and 20–60dB.
  • Desired Attributes: experience working in a team setting; problem‑solving skills; mentorship or coaching skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Earnings:
