Job summary

Goddard Riverside's Beacon Community Centers in Manhattan are seeking a Group Leader to guide K-8 groups through reading enrichment, project-based learning, and engaging activities during the summer program. You will work with a team of staff to foster social and intellectual growth in a positive environment.

Schedules run June 15 through August 14, Monday to Friday, with 8:00am–5:00pm or 9:00am–6:00pm shifts (35–40 hours/week).

Responsibilities

• Lead groups of co-ed children (grades K-8) in reading enrichment, project-based learning, and group activities.
• Collaborate with other Group Leaders and activity specialists to provide a positive, creative environment for social and intellectual development.
• Coordinate with Beacons operations during summer sessions and field trips to ensure safety and engagement.

The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Program Description:

Beacon Community Centers are in public schools throughout New York City and serve youth from kindergarten through age 21 and adults ages 22 and older, including Older Adults. Beacons operate year-round on non-school hours, weekdays, evenings, weekends and in the summer as a resource to the entire community by offering integrated programming tailored to local needs. During the summer, Beacons collaborate with the New York City Public Schools for the Summer Rising initiative.

Position Summary:

Group Leaders are assigned to lead and work with a group of co-ed children (grades K-8) and staff. Groups are divided into grade groups (kindergarten through eighth grade), for reading enrichment, project-based learning, group games, social-emotional competencies, and field trips. Group Leaders work in unison with other Group Leaders and activity specialists. Together and through Group Work practice, our staff works to provide a positive and creative environment for the social and intellectual development of all participants.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday, June 15 through August 14

8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm (35-40 hours per week)

Hourly Rate:

$21.00
