Job summary

East Side House is seeking a Group Leader for its Youth After-School Academy in the Bronx. The role involves designing and leading enrichment activities for students, coordinating with staff, and ensuring a safe, engaging after-school environment.

You will work up to 20 hours per week, typically 2:00pm–5:30pm on school days, with some days extending to 7:30am–5:45pm as needed. A high school diploma and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Clearance requirements: Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance, Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance, SCR Clearance ($25.00), Staff Exclusion List Clearance, physical exam and TB test, Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours), Health and Safety training (5 hours).

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and document educational, recreational, youth leadership, and arts activities for school-aged children.
• Maintain safety and care of children as primary focus; enforce discipline per policy.
• Engage with children to foster positive development and strong group dynamics.
• Represent the agency professionally to staff, parents and children.
• Assist in enrollment, attendance records, and documentation.
• Inspect facilities and supplies; ensure organization at day end.
• Collaborate with specialists and participate in staff development and training.
• Attend supervision, team meetings, and required trainings.

The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. ESH has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve. ESHs Youth After-School Academy, a literacy-focused after school program for students in grades 6 through 8 from high-poverty communities in Bronx, NY. ESH managed After School Programs offer students additional learning time in a fun, engaging, and safe environment. Students are offered a wide variety of activities including homework help, robotics, team sports, karate, dance, and music. Educational methods are used to build and reinforce the skills needed to reach New York State standards for promotion and graduation.The Group Leaders primary responsibility is to design and lead enrichment activities for students. We are seeking creative professionals with experience working with the youth in the following (but not limited to) areas: Music, visual arts, media technology, dance, sports and recreation, health awareness and community leadership. **Essential Functions and Responsibilities**Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Group Leader, will be responsible for but not limited to the following:* Plan, implement and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, and community service and arts activities with school-aged children.* Adhere to policies and procedures in a pro-active manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.* Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant in your care and foster positive connections between participants. Actively engage with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group.* Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.* Effectively manage assigned group.
