Job summary

Westport Community Schools is seeking a Group Leader for the Out of School Time program in Westport, MA. This part-time role runs in the afternoon during the school year, with 2:30pm–5:30pm hours and 20+ hours weekly during breaks.

Under supervision of the OST Director, you will supervise children, supervise play, and support learning centers to ensure safety and positive interactions. The ideal candidate has CPR/First Aid certification, ability to work with diverse abilities, and a cooperative

Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid certification required or must obtain.
• Minimum 6 months of experience with preschool/elementary children.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Demonstrate patience, understanding, warmth towards children.
• Must be able to work with children with different abilities.

Responsibilities

• Direct Child Care: Implement age-appropriate activities and learning centers; provide individual attention.
• Classroom Support: Prepare materials, set up learning environments, implement lesson plans.
• Communication and Documentation: Observe and communicate behavior concerns; maintain attendance and daily records.
• Safety and Compliance: Follow EEC regulations; participate in drills; report abuse or neglect; CORI/SAFIS checks as required.

Group Leader Out of School Time

5 days per week

Hours: Part-time. School year: Afternoon hours only. 2:30pm - 5:30pm, Summer/School Breaks: 20+ hours varied weekly.

REPORTS TO: Out of School Time Director/Out of School Time Coordinator

JOB GOAL: Under supervision of the Director or designee, supervise children during playtime, ensuring safety and appropriate interactions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Child Care

• Implement age-appropriate activities and learning centers
• Provide individual attention to children as needed.
• Monitor children for signs of distress or potential hazards.

Classroom Support

• Prepare materials and set up learning environments for activities.
• Lesson plans and curriculum implementation.
• Facilitate small group activities under the Site Coordinator or Program Coordinator supervision.
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom.

Communication and Documentation

• Observe, document, and communicate concerning behavior to the Site Coordinator, Program Coordinator or Director
• Maintain accurate records of children's attendance and daily activities.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow all EEC regulations regarding child safety and hygiene practices.
• Participate in emergency drills and procedures.
• Adhere to all reporting requirements regarding child abuse or neglect.

• * Performs such other appropriate tasks as may be assigned from time to time.

Job Requirements

• CPR/First Aid certified required or must obtain CPR/First certification.
• 6 months of experience with children graded preK-4 working in a childcare or school setting preferred.
• Ability to work as a part of a team and independently.
• Demonstrate patience, understanding, warmth, and compassion toward children.
• Must be able to work with children who have different abilities.
• Proof of recent physical examination and proof of MMR vaccination or titer.
• Must complete EEC Essentials 2.0 Training.
• Must undergo a background check and fingerprints.
• Must be at least 18.
• At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• High School/Trade School degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required
