Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay is seeking a Part-Time Group Leader Assistant to support daily operations at the Castro Valley site, providing high-quality care to children and families in an inclusive setting. You will help with activities, maintain attendance, ensure safety, and collaborate with staff, families, and partners.

Must be 18+, have 48 college units or IA exam, and relevant childcare experience. This on-site role offers meaningful work and exposure to youth programs, with compliance to health

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years old.
• 48 semester units or successful IA exam.
• Youth, classroom or child care experience preferred.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and support children of all abilities.
• Pre-employment health screening/TB and DOJ/FBI LiveScan clearances.
• Pediatric First Aid and CPR, AED, Child Abuse Prevention and applicable safety trainings within required timelines.

Responsibilities

• Ensure active supervision of students at all times to promote safety.
• Assist with developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant activities and materials.
• Work with staff to support program quality, safety, cleanliness and accident prevention.
• Support attendance and program records; document and report as needed.
• Provide first aid and report incidents promptly.

• Attend staff meetings, trainings and events.

POSITION SUMMARY:

These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Mission and Policies of the YMCA of the East Bay. Group Leader Assistants are responsible for supporting the daily operations of the site by providing high quality and responsive care to children and families in an inclusive setting.The position support meaningful, culturally relevant educational and recreational activities and positive relationships grounded in Y values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Support active supervision of students at all times to promote physical and emotional safety.
• Assist with developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant activities, curriculum, supplies and equipment.
• Work cooperatively with staff to support program quality, safety, cleanliness and accident prevention.
• Support individual growth, homework help and academic skill building while recognizing each child’s needs.
• Maintain accurate attendance and required program records.
• Support children’s health and well-being; provide first aid when necessary and promptly report incidents or injuries.
• Use consistent, age-appropriate positive behavior guidelines and document notable situations according to policy.
• Build and maintain positive communication—both verbal and non-verbal—with students, families, school personnel, district partners and Y staff.
• Follow Y policies and applicable community partner policy requirements for the assigned site at all times.
• Attend required staff meetings, trainings, program activities and special events.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Pediatric First Aid and CPR, AED, Child Abuse Prevention and applicable safety trainings within required timelines.
