Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM seeks a Group Leader for the Applied Mathematics and Plasma Physics Group (T-5) within the Theoretical Division. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on research oversight across mathematics, numerical analysis, AI, plasma physics and related fields.

You will manage 43 staff scientists and 26 postdocs, recruit and mentor talent, foster collaborations with internal and external partners, and guide the group’s research portfolio while

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise and record of accomplishment in research areas; ability to contribute technically to group projects and develop programs.
• Effective leadership experience, preferably in a scientific or technical team, group, or project setting.
• Experience recruiting, mentoring, supervising, and facilitating the technical work of scientific researchers at all levels.
• Effective communication skills across disciplines and with sponsors; able to delegate tasks and interact with management.
