Job summary

Priority Dispatch Corp. in New York is seeking a Group Leader to help develop a positive youth program culture, supervise activities, and model constructive behavior for our Future Leaders.

Location is 60 E 94th St, Brooklyn, NY 11212. The role is part-time (up to 20 hours per week) with opportunities for professional development, training, and engagement in after-school and summer programs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• 1 year experience working with youth in school or camp setting.
• Ability to lead and participate in group sports and recreation.
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all community members, including modeling and facilitating positive conflict resolution.
• Available to work part-time hours on School Days and full-time hours on Non-School Days (School Holidays & Summer).

Responsibilities

• Supervise activities and enforce Zero Impact policy.
• Assist teachers and activity specialists in facilitation and encourage participant involvement; maintain safe spaces.
• Plan engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities across literacy, STEM, arts.
• Apply positive youth development principles to foster growth and self-esteem.
• Join meetings/workshops to develop professional skills.

At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.PRIMARY FUNCTION: A Group Leader works with participants to develop a positive community culture and ensure our goals are being acknowledged in our programs. Group Leaders are expected to cultivate meaningful relationships and be positive role models for our future leaders.ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:Supervisor: Program DirectorMax Hours: 20 per weekDays: 5 per week, Monday – FridayCompensation: $17 – $18.50 per hourLocation: 60 E 94th St, Brooklyn, NY 11212RESPONSIBILITIES:Participant SupervisionSupervise all scheduled activities and enforce the Zero Impact policy. (Supervising program participants always during program operation, in all locations where the program operates, including off-site trips)Facilitation of ActivitiesAssisting teachers and activity specialists in the facilitation of lessons/activities by actively participating and encouraging participant involvement;Creating and maintaining a supportive and safe environment by making sure activity spaces are clean and organized;Planning and implementing engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities that incorporate elements of literacy, STEM, the creative arts, youth development, and team Building.Youth DevelopmentUtilizing principles of positive youth development through use of behavior management and discipline techniques that foster social, emotional, and cognitive growth, and build self-esteem and responsibility in all participants;Building positive relationships with and among participants, and acting as a role modelProfessional DevelopmentParticipating in meetings and workshops that enhance professional skills, as assigned by Program Director, Senior Program Director, or agency, including a minimum of 15 hours of training per year;Working with program director, staff developers, and (as applicable) educational specialists to develop professional skills;Applying skills and knowledge acquired in those trainings to improve program quality.Program Procedures and SafetyAdhering to site-specific memoranda and program staff manual which includes staff and program specific requirements as prescribed by the NYS Child School Aged Child Care (SACC) Programs regulation in a proactive manner, making the provision of quality services and the safety and care of all children the primary focus;Notifying supervisors of all behaviors that impede the provision of quality services and the safety of participants and staff.
