Full Time, Part Time, and Float (Saturday/Sunday 7am‑9pm; Friday 3pm‑11pm).

Pay Rate

$19.25 - $21.25 hourly, based on total years of experience with Adult IDD populations.

Same‑Day Offers & Rapid Onboarding

Qualified candidates may receive same‑day offers at the event on July 11, 2026 (11am‑2pm). Rapid onboarding on the day of the event could allow start as early as 7 days. Candidates who participate and start on July 20th will receive a $50 net hiring incentive paid on the first paycheck.

Position Summary

The Group Home Counselor provides supervision, guidance, instruction, and skill building to assigned individuals in their residence or program site regarding daily living activities, health, safety, wellness, vocational activities, and interaction with others.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage, supervise, instruct, support, and provide guidance to assigned individuals following their Individual Support Plan, emphasizing community integration in all activities, including:
    • Personal healthcare and hygiene
    • Religious and sexual preferences
    • Ethnic and cultural support
    • Recreational and social activities
    • Physical fitness and healthy living
    • Family visits and conflict resolution
    • Independence and personal supply management
    • Meal preparation, menu planning, and dietary restrictions
    • Housekeeping, bed making, cleaning, and organization
    • Clothing maintenance (laundry, mending, ironing)
    • Financial management (budgeting, banking, bill paying)
    • Social awareness (table manners, telephone skills, etiquette)
    • Interpersonal relationships
    • Self‑employment or vocational responsibilities, behavior, and performance
    • Emergency response and safety, including fire alarms
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and bathroom sanitation.
  • Transport individuals to and from program sites, appointments, and community activities.
  • Complete laundry, mending, and ironing as assigned.
  • Administer all medications per agency protocols and keep inventory.
  • Oversee and supervise activities and whereabouts of each individual in line with their support plan.
  • Purchase groceries based on the weekly menu.
  • Prepare meals and snacks meeting dietary restrictions.
  • Perform general shopping duties.
  • When accompanying individuals to a day program, assist with design and implementation of activities, supervise, document progress, and complete required notes.
  • Assist individuals with care and maintenance of prescribed adaptive and medical devices and equipment.
  • Support individuals during community activities to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Complete assessments, planning of supports, and behavior management plans.
  • Complete all required documentation: goal training, behavior management, progress notes, communication logs, incident reports, medication logs, emergencies, and repair issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personal information.
  • Remain on duty until relieved by replacement staff.
  • Accept reassignment to support individuals in other residences and locations when needed.
  • Place trash and recyclables as scheduled.
  • Maintain, organize, file, and purge records as assigned.
  • Attend at least eight staff meetings per year.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and current state‑mandated training and certifications.
  • Cooperate with Elwyn New Jersey and state agencies during inspections.
  • Perform CPR, crisis prevention and intervention, and medication administration per agency protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a related field or with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Non‑profit human service experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent judgment and independent problem solving.
  • Must be able to perform CPR, first aid, and crisis prevention/intervention per agency protocols.
  • Good customer interaction, collaboration, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Basic web‑based and email application experience preferred.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check and drug test and be cleared by the New Jersey Department of Human Services.
  • Must agree to have name checked against the New Jersey Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and NJ Child Abuse Registry (CARI).
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license in the state of residence with a minimum of two years of driving experience within the United States.
