Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare is seeking a Fitness Specialist I to instruct group classes, guide members of all ages toward fitness goals, and ensure safe program execution. The role emphasizes senior-friendly instruction, teamwork, and high standards of customer service in a hospital fitness environment.

The position requires a high school diploma, 3+ years in fitness instruction, and current national fitness certification plus CPR within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years in personal training or group fitness instruction.
• Current national fitness or group fitness certification (NCSA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM).
• CPR certification within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safe and effective group exercise classes.
• Observe and correct contraindications to exercise.
• Modify class according to different fitness levels.
• Keep current with new trends and styles for group exercise instruction.
• Provide tours of the facility and services.
• Build rapport with members and meet their needs.
• Provide superior customer service to all members.
• Interact with other departments to maintain good working relationships.
• Attend required hospital orientations and events.
• Coordinate and prioritize responsibilities and projects.
• Maintain cleanliness of all fitness equipment.
• Follow opening and closing procedures.
• Conduct new member orientations and assist with equipment usage.
• Identify risk factors and customize programs for members.
• Demonstrate safe programs on exercise equipment.
• Complete work timely with mastery and quality.
• Adhere to the Service Excellence Standards at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare.
• Exhibit courtesy, compassion, and respect to others.
• Attend hospital-wide orientations and meetings.
