Job summary

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor Level I to lead on-land and water classes under the Wellness Director. You will manage class setup, music selection, and educate participants on THE COACH APPROACH and wellness topics.

You must maintain CPR/AED and YMCA certifications, log attendance daily, and stay current with continuing education. This position requires proactive engagement with staff and members to ensure a safe, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• High school or GED degree required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
• May have less than one year of experience in teaching group exercise or one year of participation.
• Land instructors must obtain YMCA/ACE Group Exercise Instructor Certification within 60 days of hire; if strength/conditioning, S&C certification also required.
• Water instructors must obtain YMCA/AEA online certification and related courses within 60 days of hire.
• Maintain access to Y-Link and Workday; upload continuing education credits as required.
• Must possess CPR/AED certification and renew every two years.
• Must obtain and maintain Specialty Certifications (e.g., Pilates, Group Cycling) prior to teaching format.
• Must pass group exercise audition based on format.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position's scope and responsibilities.
• Stay updated on current issues regarding group fitness/wellness programs.
• Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure that group exercise classes run smoothly with a high level of service to participants.
• Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR/AED and any other certifications/training required by Metro Atlanta YMCA.
• Log class attendance in GroupEx PRO by 11:59 p.m. on the night the class is taught.
• Log in to GroupEx PRO at least twice weekly for updates and substitutions.
• Secure a substitute instructor if unable to teach; obtain approval before relief.
• Adhere to Metro Atlanta YMCA risk and safety guidelines and emergency procedures.
• Exemplify YMCA values and leadership qualities; work independently and as a team.
• Pass a pre-employment background check including criminal record and drug screening.
