Job description

Grit City Wellness is a fitness and wellness community built around helping people feel stronger, healthier, and better in their everyday lives.

We bring fitness, recovery, and wellness together under one roof, creating an environment where members can work on their strength, health, recovery, and overall well-being.

We're looking for Group Fitness Instructors who love people as much as they love fitness.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Group Fitness Instructor, you'll be responsible for creating classes that members look forward to attending.

You'll lead safe, challenging, and engaging workouts while creating an environment where everyone—from the person taking their very first class to the regular who's been coming for years—feels welcome and supported.

Great instructors do more than lead a workout. They create energy in the room. They notice when someone needs a little extra encouragement. They make people feel like they belong.

That's what we're looking for at Grit.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead Great Classes

  • Plan and lead engaging, organized, and effective group fitness classes.
  • Provide clear instruction and demonstrate proper exercise techniques.
  • Offer modifications for different fitness levels and abilities.
  • Create classes that are challenging while still being approachable and inclusive.
  • Start and finish classes on time.
  • Bring positive energy and professionalism to every class.

Build Relationships

  • Learn members' names and get to know the people who attend your classes.
  • Create a welcoming environment where people feel comfortable participating.
  • Encourage members and celebrate their progress.
  • Help new members feel comfortable and connected.
  • Build the kind of relationships that make people want to come back.

Keep People Safe

  • Monitor participants and provide appropriate guidance around form and technique.
  • Offer modifications when needed.
  • Pay attention to participant limitations and safety concerns.
  • Maintain current CPR and required certifications.
  • Follow Grit's safety and emergency procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, incidents, or emergencies.

Take Care of the Space

  • Prepare the studio before class.
  • Check equipment before and after classes.
  • Keep equipment clean, organized, and properly stored.
  • Report damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Help make the studio feel clean, organized, and ready for the next class.

Be Part of the Grit Team

  • Promote classes, events, challenges, and fitness programs.
  • Help members discover other fitness and wellness services that may support their goals.
  • Communicate schedule changes or class needs with the Fitness Director.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Work alongside trainers, wellness staff, and the front desk to create a great overall member experience.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for instructors who are:

  • Energetic, positive, and genuinely enjoy being around people.
  • Confident leading a room and comfortable speaking in front of a group.
  • Able to clearly explain and demonstrate exercises.
  • Comfortable modifying exercises for different abilities and fitness levels.
  • Attentive to safety and aware of what is happening in the room.
  • Dependable, organized, and prepared.
  • Welcoming and encouraging without being overbearing.
  • Professional while still bringing personality to their classes.
  • Comfortable taking feedback and continuing to grow as an instructor.
  • Interested in being part of a team rather than simply showing up to teach and leaving.

Previous group fitness teaching experience is preferred, along with current certifications appropriate to the classes you teach. CPR/AED certification is required or must be obtained as required by Grit.

WHY TEACH AT GRIT?

At Grit, fitness is about more than the workout.

It's about the people you meet, the relationships you build, and how you feel when you walk out the door.

Our fitness community is connected to a larger wellness experience, which means our instructors are part of something bigger than a single class. You'll work alongside trainers and wellness professionals and have the opportunity to help members discover all the ways Grit can support their goals.

We want our instructors to bring their own personality and energy to the room while still creating a consistent, professional experience for our members.

You don't have to be the loudest person in the room. You do need to be someone who can make people feel welcome, lead with confidence, and create an experience people want to come back to.

THIS ROLE MAY BE A GREAT FIT FOR YOU IF...

You love teaching.

You love the energy of a room full of people working hard together.

You notice when someone is standing in the back because they’re new—and you naturally want to make them feel welcome.

You can motivate people without making them feel intimidated.

You care about doing things correctly and safely, but you also know that people come to class because they want to enjoy themselves.

And you want to be part of a fitness community where you can build relationships—not just teach a class and walk out the door.

If this sounds like you, we'd love to meet you.
