Job summary

The Red Bank branch of the YMCA of The Jersey Shore is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor to promote safe, engaging group exercise programs under the Regional Group Exercise Director. You will lead classes on time, maintain equipment, and follow safety procedures while embodying YMCA core values.

Applicants must hold a current group exercise certification and obtain First Aid/CPR within 90 days; must be 18+ and complete new-hire trainings.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current nationally recognized group exercise certification.
• Ability to communicate and lead group exercise classes to a diverse group.
• First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire.
• Be at least 18 years old and complete YMCA orientations/training.

Responsibilities

• Always be on time for all group fitness classes and follow dress code.

• Provide proper and safe instruction of assigned classes.
• Ensure participant safety and monitor technique during sessions.
• Take attendance and manage class rosters.
• Keep class formats and music current and appropriate.
• Store equipment properly and reset room after classes.
• Follow emergency procedures and report safety issues in writing.
• Assist with cleaning and upkeep of facilities and equipment as directed.
• Represent the YMCA professionally and foster a positive environment.
• Attend required staff meetings and training; participate in payroll app processes.

Job description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Fitness Instructor at The Red Bank branch of the YMCA of The Jersey Shore intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Group Exercise Director, the Group Fitness Instructor will promote healthy and safe group exercise programs for all clients in a professional manner.

• Always be on time for all group fitness classes and abiding by the established dress code
• Demonstrate YMCA core character values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring in all interactions with employees, members, staff and others; commit to ongoing professional development.
• Responsible for proper and safe instruction of assigned classes.
• Responsible for providing participants with proper safety techniques and a stimulating exercise session.
• Responsible taking attendance and/or keeping class roster.
• Responsible for keeping class format and music current and appropriate.
• Ensure equipment is put away in its proper storage area and room is clean and returned to its original set up after class.
• Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures.
• Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report to supervisor in writing any problems. Responsible for filling out accident/incident reports and getting these reports to the Regional Wellness Director. Additionally, immediately report any unsafe or suspicious activity directly to Regional Group Exercise Director or Director on Duty.
• Enhanced cleaning in areas where the employee is not directly/normally assigned as well as normally assigned areas. All employees are expected to assist in and support the efforts of the YMCA when it comes to health and wellness for the facility and other locations where the YMCA conducts business. All employees are expected to wipe machines, screens, computers, phones or anything that is used after they use it, all employees are expected to wash their hands on a frequent basis (recommended every 30 minutes if possible) and use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available.
• The employee may be assigned to areas other than their normally assigned area as needed to meet organizational needs. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, being assigned areas to count people, help direct flow of traffic in an area, being assigned to a specific area to assist with doors, and any other duty as needed by the organization.
• Represent the YMCA in a professional manner and promote a positive and cheerful environment.
• Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and continuing job training.
• Be able to complete payroll on time each week on the payroll Mobile application on your personal phone.

• Must be at least age 18 years
• Current nationally recognized group exercise certification (SCA, ASCM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NETA, NASM, AAAI/ISMA, or WITS certifications)
• Ability to communicate and lead group exercise classes to a diverse group of participants
• First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date
