Job summary

The YMCA of The Jersey Shore Red Bank branch is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor to lead safe, engaging classes and promote healthful living. Under supervision of the Regional Group Exercise Director, you will ensure attendance, maintain rosters, and keep equipment and space in good condition.

You must hold a current group exercise certification and CPR/AED/First Aid within 90 days, be at least 18, and participate in new team orientation and online trainings.

Qualifications

• Current nationally recognized group exercise certification (SCA, ASCM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NETA, NASM, AAAI/ISMA, or WITS).
• First Aid and CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to communicate and lead group exercise classes to a diverse group of participants.
• Attend New Team Member Orientation and relevant online trainings.
• Notify Healthy Living Director before First Aid/CPR/AED expiration date.

Responsibilities

• Promote healthy and safe group exercise programs for all clients.
• Be on time for all group fitness classes and follow the dress code.
• Demonstrate YMCA core values in interactions with members and staff.
• Responsible for proper and safe instruction of assigned classes.
• Take attendance and maintain class rosters.
• Keep class format and music current and appropriate.
• Ensure equipment is stored properly and rooms are cleaned after use.
• Follow emergency procedures and report safety issues in writing.
• Report any unsafe activity to supervisor; assist with cleaning areas as needed.
• Attend required staff meetings and job trainings; complete payroll via mobile app.

Job description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Fitness Instructor at The Red Bank branch of the YMCA of The Jersey Shore intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Group Exercise Director, the Group Fitness Instructor will promote healthy and safe group exercise programs for all clients in a professional manner.Always be on time for all group fitness classes and abiding by the established dress codeDemonstrate YMCA core character values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring in all interactions with employees, members, staff and others; commit to ongoing professional development.Responsible for proper and safe instruction of assigned classes.Responsible for providing participants with proper safety techniques and a stimulating exercise session.Responsible taking attendance and/or keeping class roster.Responsible for keeping class format and music current and appropriate.Ensure equipment is put away in its proper storage area and room is clean and returned to its original set up after class.Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures.Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report to supervisor in writing any problems. Responsible for filling out accident/incident reports and getting these reports to the Regional Wellness Director. Additionally, immediately report any unsafe or suspicious activity directly to Regional Group Exercise Director or Director on Duty.Enhanced cleaning in areas where the employee is not directly/normally assigned as well as normally assigned areas. All employees are expected to assist in and support the efforts of the YMCA when it comes to health and wellness for the facility and other locations where the YMCA conducts business. All employees are expected to wipe machines, screens, computers, phones or anything that is used after they use it, all employees are expected to wash their hands on a frequent basis (recommended every 30 minutes if possible) and use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available.The employee may be assigned to areas other than their normally assigned area as needed to meet organizational needs.
