Group Exercise Instructor Job Description
Under the direction of the Fitness and Recreation Manager, the Group Exercise Instructor will provide innovative, energetic, and motivational exercise classes tailored to all fitness and skill levels, contributing to members' fitness goals.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality group exercise instruction aligned with sound fitness principles.
- Teach participants ranging from beginners to advanced levels, providing guidance for their development.
- Offer individual and group feedback to support participants' progress.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate group exercise programs based on desired outcomes.
- Maintain open communication with the Fitness and Recreation Manager regarding class development and scheduling.
- Uphold a professional demeanor with students, patrons, staff, and management.
- Communicate any classroom changes promptly to participants.
- Conduct program evaluations as directed.
Class Development and Delivery
- Speak confidently to both small and large groups with enthusiasm.
- Create and demonstrate practices suitable for all ages and abilities.
- Ensure a safe, enjoyable, and engaging environment for all participants.
Safety and Compliance
- Collaborate with the Fitness and Recreation Manager and personal trainers to develop safety policies and risk assessments.
- Follow all Safe From Harm Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure safety precautions are followed by all class members.
- Maintain a safe environment and report hazards or incidents immediately.
Participant Well-being
- Strive for the spiritual, emotional, and physical renewal of all participants in all programs and interactions.
- Be punctual and prepared for classes.
- Promote equality and fairness among participants.
- Adhere to all Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certifications from ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NSCA, or relevant specialized certifications.
- At least one year of experience in teaching group exercise programs.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications preferred.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Fluent in English; Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
- Physical ability to perform and instruct various exercise formats, including lifting up to 40 lbs, stretching, and choreographed movements.
- Complete Safe From Harm training and certification.
- Pass a thorough background check prior to employment.
