Job summary

The YMCA of the Inland Northwest is seeking a Part-Time Group Exercise Instructor for the Sandpoint Branch in Sandpoint, ID. You will lead group fitness classes, adapt workouts for diverse members, and contribute to a welcoming, safe environment that reflects YMCA values.

Your duties include planning and teaching classes, tracking attendance, providing feedback, enforcing safety, and helping members progress. This role supports Health & Wellness with flexible scheduling and opportunities to grow.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Group Fitness Instructor Certification from AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA or equivalent.
  • If only teaching Yoga, must be registered with RYA.
  • Six months to one year experience leading group exercise classes preferred.
  • Completes YMCA required trainings upon hire.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Strong program implementation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Able to respond professionally in injuries and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and teach group exercise classes with safe, accessible routines.

Group Exercise Instructor - :Litehouse/Sandpoint

Part Time 0-19 Sandpoint Branch, Sandpoint, ID, US

Salary Range: $18.00 To $27.50 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructor supplies group exercise instruction and support for the Health and Wellness department. The Group Exercise Instructor maintains a safe and friendly environment while they lead members through a purposeful fitness program fit to their health and exercise needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, develop, adapt, and teach group exercise classes and other programming as part of the Health & Wellness Department, maintaining safe, effective, modified, and accessible routines for all members
  • Welcome members to the facility, keep running records of participant attendance, and motivate participants to perform their best during programming.
  • Observe class participants, evaluate individual and group needs and abilities, and provide meaningful feedback on their performance and progress
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of class participants by enforcing policies and procedures set for the facility and group exercise classes.
  • Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels and proper breathing techniques during group exercise classes
  • Demonstrate through action and interaction with staff, YMCA members and the public, the Four Character Development Principles of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Interpret and communicates the Mission, objectives, and programs to Members and program participants through YMCA activities, trainings, fundraising, and staff meetings

* Seeking an experienced team member with flexibility and expertise to teach multiple program formats and help support ongoing staffing needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Group Fitness Instructor Certification from one or more of the following: AFAA( with certification prior to October 2023), ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, or other nationally recognized through NCCA, tested, and renewal required certification.
  • If only teaching Yoga, must be registered with RYA
  • Six months to one year experience leading group exercise classes preferred.
  • Completes YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Utilities above average program implementation skills, outstanding communication skills, and exceptional organizational skills
  • Able to respond professionally and swiftly in cases of injuries and emergencies

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

STARTING PAY: $18.00-$27.50/hr DOE
