Job description

Motivate members with enthusiasm and encouragement to help the reach the next level of fitness. Engage members as you deliver classes with enthusiasm, leadership, and knowledge of the components of a safe and effective fitness program.

LES MILLS SHAPES combines the best of Pilates, barre and power yoga with modern playful beats. This low-impact workout uses small, controlled movements and repetition to target muscles, sculpt, strengthen, and improve alignment and flexibility. Suitable for all fitness levels, LES MILLS SHAPES is all about finding the hot spot and training at an intensity that works for you.

  • Schedule for this position will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Motivate and collaborate with people of all abilities, ages, opinions, and backgrounds to ensure a positive experience that meets their unique needs.
  • Build collaborative relationships with participants to grow class attendance.
  • Instruct participants on proper form and safety.
  • Enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy within the class.
  • If your personal schedule takes you away from a scheduled shift, find a substitute instructor and provide a prepared lesson plan for them to ensure the class members are given the high-quality lesson.
  • Take class attendance on a daily basis.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor with coworkers and patrons. Make class participants feel welcome, safe and engaged.
  • Actively participate in required staff trainings and meetings. Maintain required certifications.
  • Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
    • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
    • Attend required abuse risk management training.
    • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policyviolations.
    • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
SKILLS AND TRAINING
  • Basic knowledge of the components and techniques for teaching fitness classes and the ability to instruct and keep cadence with music required.
  • Must demonstrate strong skills working with and motivating people in a positive manner.
  • Must obtain YMCA Group Fitness Instructor certification within six months of employment and CPR certification within 60 days of employment; training provided.Certain classes may require additional certification prior to employment.
  • LES MILLS SHAPES certifications and trainings will be paid for by the YMCA.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Due to the instructional nature of the position the Instructor must actively lead and demonstrate all the exercises and choreography associated with the class. This will require significant use of hands, arms, and body for 30-60 minutes at various degrees of physical assertion, as well as the ability to lift up to 20 pounds (depending on the class) to set up and put away equipment.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and project your voice while performing physical exercises.
  • Occasional local travel between centers and/or other locations within the community may be required.
