Qualifications

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certified; group fitness certification (ACE/ACSM/AFAA) preferred; customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customer safety, facility cleanliness, and high service during operating hours.
  • Assist risk management and ensure compliance with university policies.
  • Teach classes, lead fitness workshops, and promote events.
  • Record class data (surveys, attendance) as requested.
  • Communicate issues to Group Exercise Manager.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and public spaces cleaning.
  • Support events and operations during evenings, nights, or weekends.
  • Attend Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Fitness Coordinator.
  • Work as part of LU's mission-driven team.

Job description

The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for performing operational tasks, maintaining studio cleanliness, and instructing various group exercise classes at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center. They will ensure that all policies are followed by guests and that all safety measures are being implemented at the facility.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for ensuring customer safety, facility cleanliness, effective operations, and a high level of customer service, at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center, during operational hours.

  2. Assist in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center, ensuring compliance with University policies.

  3. Responsible for the completion of day-to-day operational tasks to ensure seamless function of group exercise programming, including: teaching classes, leading fitness workshops, and promotion of special events.

  4. Record required statistical data before and after each class (surveys, class numbers, and any other data requested from the Group Exercise manager of Fitness Coordinator.

  5. Effectively communicate any issues or customer complaints to the Group Exercise Manager.

  6. Responsible to assist with maintenance of equipment and the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center public spaces, fitness studios, including regular cleaning.

  7. Regularly assist with events and operations during evening, nights or weekend hours.

  8. Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.

  9. Perform all other tasks assigned by the Fitness Coordinator to assist with Campus Recreation operations and programming.

  10. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

Must be a current Liberty University student, able to work up to 18 hours per week, available to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night), and current CPR/AED and First Aid certified. Experience in a customer service position, desire to pursue recreation management as a career field, and current group fitness certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA) is preferred.

Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly lift 45 or fewer pounds.
