Job summary

Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake, IL is seeking a part-time Group Exercise Instructor to lead group classes in a safe, enjoyable environment that promotes member wellness and engagement. The role follows YMCA policies and contributes to the organization’s mission of strengthening bodies, minds, and neighborhoods.

Salary starts at $20.00 per hour with a fitness pay plan. Instructors may teach Zumba or Werq!, and we offer a range of benefits and perks to support your work-life balance and professional

Qualifications

• Must have basic knowledge of fitness or equivalent work/education experience.
• Experience with multiple formats.
• At least 25 hours of practical fitness class instruction.
• Ability to lead and motivate a fitness class.
• Respond to safety and emergency situations; set up, move, and store equipment.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Plan and instruct fitness classes following YMCA standards.
• Design safe, effective programs for each member.
• Observe progress and build rapport with participants.
• Keep accurate attendance and progress records.
• Set up and take down class equipment; report issues.
• Promote YMCA programs and encourage long-term participation.
• Ensure workouts are safe and report incidents.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; maintain current certifications.
• Support YMCA mission and center operations as needed.

Scope of Responsibilities:

• Plans and instructs fitness classes with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
• Designs and implements safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programs that will meet the unique needs and wants of each member.
• Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.
• Keeps accurate records of members’ attendance and progress.
• Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.
• Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long-term participation.
• Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents, incidents, and equipment problems.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Maintains current certifications.
• Supports the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed

Requirements:

• Must have basic knowledge of fitness or equivalent work/education experience.
• Experience with multiple formats
• Must have at minimum 25 hours of practical experience as a fitness class instructor.
• Must have the ability to lead a fitness class and to motivate and educate members in the field of physical fitness.
• Must be able to respond to safety and emergency situations; ability to set up, move, and store equipment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Child Abuse Prevention- Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:

• Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
• Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
• Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
• Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
