Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead group classes in a safe, enjoyable environment that promotes member wellness and engagement according to YMCA policies. Pay is $30-$40 per hour for classes and $20 per hour for administrative tasks and training.

Experience: basic fitness knowledge, 25 hours on-the-job, ability to motivate and educate members, and respond to safety situations. Mind/Body and Dance instructors are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Must have basic knowledge of fitness or equivalent work/education experience.
• Experience with multiple formats. Currently looking for Mind/Body Instructors and Dance Instructors.
• Must have at minimum 25 hours of practical experience as a fitness class instructor.
• Must have the ability to lead a fitness class and to motivate and educate members in the field of physical fitness.
• Must be able to respond to safety and emergency situations; ability to set up, move, and store equipment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Plans and instructs fitness classes with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
• Designs and implements safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programs that will meet the unique needs and wants of each member.
• Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.
• Keeps accurate records of members’ attendance and progress.
• Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.
• Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long-term participation.
• Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents, incidents, and equipment problems.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Maintains current certifications.
• Supports the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed

• Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
