Job summary

Greater Wichita YMCA is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead classes and provide fitness information to participants. You will manage schedules, start and end classes on time, and assist participants with questions while keeping equipment organized and up to standard.

Applicants should stay current with field trends, maintain required CEUs, and notify supervisors of absences with substitutions when needed. This role supports community fitness goals and YMCA program initiatives.

Qualifications

• Lead group exercise classes and provide general fitness guidance.
• Maintain class attendance and manage schedule adherence.
• Answer participant questions and provide basic health information.
• Keep studio equipment organized and report issues promptly.
• Stay current with fitness trends through trainings and CEUs.
• Maintain required CEUs to keep certifications current.
• Notify supervisor 24 hours in advance of absences and arrange subs.

Responsibilities

• Fulfilling confirmed seasonal teaching schedule or finding substitutes for the remaining schedule if the need arises.
• Responsible for consistently maintaining class attendance above 8 to remain on the schedule.
• Beginning and ending classes on time; being available to answer participant questions as needed.
• Responsible for organization and clean-up of studio equipment; reporting any facility or equipment irregularities, unsafe conditions or feedback to supervisor verbally and in writing.
• Responsible for staying current with trends in the field/industry by attending outside/inside trainings; developing a base of information that is current in particular discipline from which participants questions can be answered and specific information given out as requested.
• Responsible for maintaining required number of CECs to keep certifications current; required expired certifications will result in being pulled from the schedule until it is current.
• Notifying your supervisor 24-hours in advance of any expected absenteeism and finding subs in as far in advance as possible.
• Being able to substitute classes for other instructors when needed.
• Contacting Group Exercise Coordinator/Fitness Director/Wellness Director and/or Manager on Duty if there are problems arising; no matter what the circumstance, instructors are not permitted to cancel class.
• Responsible for becoming familiar with other family YMCA programs, membership policies, and general information.
• Responsible for attending staff meetings; understanding that missing two in a row may result in disciplinary action.
• Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
• Other Duties assigned.
• EFFECT ON END RESULT: Ensuring a positive and enjoyable learning experience for all class participants. The popularity and size of the classes and number of persons who attain their individual goals will measure achievable results.
