Job Description

Summary/objective

Responsible for overseeing acac’s Group Exercise Program (includes land & water based classes, special events and programs) and the instructor team.

Essential functions

  • Provide strong leadership with excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities
  • Responsible for the hiring and training of team members
  • Develop an adequate staffing plan and team schedule
  • Monitor team member productivity, provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Create and foster a team culture which is centered on achieving goals with high level of customer service
  • Conduct periodic and annual team performance evaluations
  • Keep team and members informed of events and activities and encourage participation
  • Support and handle member issues; make decisions in consideration of the club’s policies and procedures
  • Create and support special events to promote department and club
  • Develop and implement programs that will increase member participation
  • Maintain regularly scheduled hours on department schedule
  • Create a well-balanced seasonal program of class offerings that serve the needs of the club and members, utilizing attendance data to determine success, member feedback and suggestions, while recognizing current industry trends
  • Ensure classes are properly covered and instructors present in emergency situations
  • Oversee attendance tracking and review reporting of weekly, monthly and yearly averages
  • Ensure studios and equipment are in safe, working, and clean condition
  • Purchase and maintain supplies necessary for successful operation
  • Collaborate with department managers to troubleshoot club related issues and ensure an overall high level of success for the club
  • Operate within budget guidelines for the purchasing supplies, operational costs, pricing outside vendors and contractors

Requirements

Physical demands

  • Must be able to successfully demonstrate proper exercise techniques and use of equipment
  • Must be able to actively participate in classes
  • Must be in excellent physical condition to teach classes
  • Must be able to stand, move, walk, and bend for the duration of a shift
  • Must have ability and willingness to work varied shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Required competencies, education, and experience

  • Current AFAA or ACE Primary Group Ex certification and 1 original specialty cert (Les Mills, Zumba, AEA, CPT…)
  • College Degree preferred, High School diploma required
  • Prior experience with leading and supervising teams
  • Prior experience with setting and working within financial budgets preferred
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills to work positively with different populations
  • Must be extremely organized and prepared to teach classes
  • Must enjoy training, motivating and communicating with people
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Must be at least 18 years old
