Job summary

The TRUST Center at Regional Economic Community Action Program, Inc. (RECAP) in Middletown, NY seeks a Group Counselor to provide group counseling, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, and recovery support to clients in outpatient substance use disorder services.

You will collaborate with medical, clinical, and program staff, facilitate structured group sessions, and ensure documentation meets regulatory and program standards while upholding confidentiality and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum credential of CASAC-T with eligibility to obtain the CASAC credential within the first year.
• CASAC credential preferred; or qualified health professional licensed by the NYSED, as applicable to the position and program requirements.
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction recovery, and recovery-oriented services.
• Familiarity with CBT, DBT, MI, and trauma-informed care.
• Strong group facilitation skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Valid New York State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate structured group counseling sessions for clients receiving outpatient substance use disorder services.
• Maintain a safe, respectful environment that supports open communication and accountability.
• Develop psychoeducational sessions on coping skills, relapse prevention, self-esteem, stress management, and recovery planning.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support client care.
• Document services and client interactions accurately and timely.
• Respond to client crises and follow escalation procedures.
• Attend supervision, trainings, and professional development activities.
