Job summary

Xylem Tree Experts in Tennessee is seeking a groundsperson to perform vegetation management duties, operate equipment, and help maintain job sites.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license (CDL preferred), pass background and drug screening, and be able to work long hours, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and enforce safe practices.
• Operate hand tools and equipment to clear brush and trees.
• Set up staging areas and manage material and tools.
• Feed brush into woodchipper and load/unload trucks.
• Operate trucks and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards.
• Manage traffic and direct safety at work sites.
• Potentially work overtime or weekends during emergencies.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Always follow and help enforce safe practice and rules.
• Works from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using handsaws, pole saws and pruners, hand pruners, loppers, and gasoline-powered equipment to cut brush and trees.
• Define staging areas.
• Setting up and breaking down material, tools, and equipment as required.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper.
• Loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris
• Operating various trucks and equipment as assigned.
• Perform basic maintenance service on trucks and equipment; keep trucks and other assigned equipment in neat and orderly fashion; report the need for major repairs to truck and equipment.
• Tying knots, rope breaks, and speed lines according to industry standard.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
• Flag traffic to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours will be assigned by your supervisor. The Groundsperson may be required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Position requires employee to be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job.

Must meet I-9 requirements.
