Job summary

Xylem Tree Experts in Cumberland, MD seeks a full-time Groundsperson to support vegetation management and maintenance tasks. You will operate tools and equipment, load/unload materials, and help keep job sites safe and organized under supervisor direction.

Must have a valid driver’s license; CDL preferred. The role may require overtime and weekend work, with emphasis on safety and efficient site operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and help enforce safe practice.
• Work from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using handsaws, pole saws, pruners, loppers and equipment.
• Define staging areas and set up/break down material, tools, and equipment.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper; loading/unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, debris.
• Operate trucks and equipment; perform basic maintenance and report major repairs.
• Tie knots, rope breaks, and speed lines per industry standard; safeguard workers and public.
• Be prepared to work overtime and weekends, especially during emergencies.

• Define staging areas.
• Setting up and breaking down material, tools, and equipment as required.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper.
• Loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris
• Operating various trucks and equipment as assigned.
• Perform basic maintenance service on trucks and equipment; keep trucks and other assigned equipment in neat and orderly fashion; report the need for major repairs to truck and equipment.
• Tying knots, rope breaks, and speed lines according to industry standard.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
• Flag traffic to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours will be assigned by your supervisor. The Groundsperson may be required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Position requires employee to be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job.
