The Groundsperson supports the crew by performing ground-based work, including clearing brush and trees as directed, and performing clean-up on each job site.

Essential Functions

1. Follow and help enforce safe practices and rules.
2. Keep work area clear of debris.
3. Clear undergrowth from right-of-way using handsaws, pole saws, pruners, loppers, and gas-powered chain saws.
4. Load and unload trucks with logs, brush, and debris; feed brush into chipper.
5. Use hand lines to lower limbs and equipment.
6. Perform general clean-up of job sites after work completion.
7. Carry, prepare, and store materials, tools, and equipment.
8. Set up and break down road signs as directed.
9. Flag traffic to protect employees and the public.
10. Drive trucks or operate other equipment as assigned.
11. Perform basic maintenance on trucks and equipment; report major repairs.
12. Ensure safety by enforcing practices, maintaining a clean work area, and communication.
13. Perform storm work duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Groundspersons have no direct reports.

Experience Requirements

Preferred experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Physical strength and balance for heavy limbs and uneven terrain.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Ability to hear verbal instructions from a distance.
• Obtain and maintain first-aid and CPR certification.
• Wear PPE as required.
• Driver’s License required if driving.
• Ability to understand verbal instructions.
• Maintain balance and endurance for a full workday.
• Operate and service tools and equipment.
• Travel for storm restoration when needed.
