The Groundsman plays a critical support role in professional tree care operations by assisting climbers, arborists, and equipment operators on active job sites. This position is responsible for maintaining safe, organized, and efficient ground operations during tree pruning, trimming, and removal projects.
Groundsmen work closely with aerial crews and equipment operators to support rigging, debris handling, and site safety, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and in accordance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare job sites by clearing work areas, setting up safety zones, and assisting with traffic and pedestrian control as needed
Support climbers and arborists by managing ropes, rigging lines, and lowering operations
Remove branches, brush, and wood from work areas during and after operations
Operate wood chippers and assist with loading and hauling debris
Maintain, organize, and inspect tools and equipment used on job sites
Perform job site cleanup to ensure safe and professional completion of work
Follow all safety protocols, procedures, and crew direction
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varied weather conditions
Strong awareness of job site safety and communication
Willingness to learn tree care techniques, rigging, and equipment operation
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Prior tree service or construction experience preferred, but not required
