Knoxville's Community Development Corporation is seeking a Groundskeeper to perform landscaping and grounds maintenance for apartment properties. You will operate lawn equipment, perform pruning, mowing, edging, and assist with herbicide applications while ensuring safety and property aesthetics.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, prior groundskeeping experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work independently or with a crew.

Description

SUMMARY

The Groundskeeper performs work in the general landscaping and ground maintenance of apartment buildings and building fixtures. The incumbent works as a member of a maintenance crew and performs a variety of skilled tasks in general landscaping. All activities must support Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation ("KCDC" or "Authority") mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

  • Perform general landscaping and grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, and planting.
  • Operate a variety of landscaping and maintenance equipment such as weed eaters, hedge trimmers, mowers, chainsaws, and edgers.
  • Use hand tools including shovels, rakes, loppers, and wheelbarrows to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist in the application of herbicides and perform basic weed control duties (minor herbicide knowledge preferred).
  • Maintain clean, safe, and well-kept grounds across all KCDC properties.
  • Identify areas needing improvement and proactively take action to address them.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and maintain equipment in good working condition.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic understanding of herbicide use and safety.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership qualities, self-motivated and the ability to take initiative.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to be insured by KCDC
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Graduation or GED.
  • Previous experience as a groundskeeper.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have worked as a landscaper and/or have experience using Yardi Voyager software for work orders.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to be insurable under the Authority’s automobile insurance plan at the standard rate.

  • To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to travel to various Authority properties to clean and maintain grounds. Daily movements include sitting; standing; reaching and grasping; moving about the properties; and attending onsite meetings and offsite meetings. The employee must be able to exchange information in person, in writing, and via telephone. The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
