Job summary

The City of Stuart is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker to maintain athletic fields, grounds, and park facilities. You will operate mowers, turf equipment, and basic tools to keep fields ready for games and practices, and perform routine cleanups and repairs.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent with two years of related experience, basic computer skills, and a valid Florida driver's license. Knowledge of baseball and soccer is a plus, and safety rules apply.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Team Leader III, performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and upkeep of ballfields, grounds, and parks using a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment. The incumbent receives assignments from the supervisor who indicates generally the work to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, and deadlines and priority of assignments. Work is reviewed through observation during and after completion for adherence to established policies and work progress.

Maintains athletic turf and clay surfaces on ball fields. Prepares and keeps fields ready for athletic use. Completes daily inspection and cleanup of parks and facilities.

Prepares fields for practices and games.

Maintains and repairs facilities and overall area to include playgrounds, park buildings and structures such as restrooms.

Operates standard commercial and turf landscape equipment including but not limited to mowers, power rake, spray rig, sod cutter, line painter, roller and small gas-powered tools.

Mows, places sod; rakes clay, and warning tracks, replenishes clay, trims hedges; edges; cleans restrooms; picks up trash and litter.

Operates lawn tractors, mowers, saws, clippers and other hand tools used in maintenance work.

Applies fertilizer and insecticide, engages in mechanical weed removal.

Maintains maintenance and service records, and reports of work completed, and tools used.

High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented with two (2) years related experience in athletic field or landscape maintenance and repair, including the operation of mowers and equipment. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.

This position maybe considered “Mission Critical” (aka “Essential”) and maybe required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
