Job summary

UMC Health System is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain the hospital grounds and landscaping according to standards. You will perform irrigation, repairs, sod installation, and daily rounds around the campus to identify maintenance needs.

This role supports patient comfort and safety by keeping outdoor areas well-kept and safe. A high school diploma or GED and 2 years of grounds experience are required, plus basic electrical/plumbing knowledge and a valid Texas driver license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of grounds work experience.
  • Foundation in electrical and plumbing maintenance.
  • Valid Texas Driver License with clean driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Irrigation, repair, concrete and paver repairs, and sod installation.
  • Inspections and preventive maintenance on buildings and equipment.
  • Maintain grounds and landscaping at hospital campuses.
  • Complete daily route checks around the hospital complex to identify issues.
  • All other related assigned duties.

Job Summary

The Groundskeeper performs a variety of duties in and around the hospital complex to ensure that the grounds and landscaping is maintained according to standards.

Job Specific Responsibilities

Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform a variety of duties including but not limited to: irrigation, repair, concrete and paver repairs, and sod installation
  • Performs inspections and preventive maintenance on buildings and equipment, as required
  • Responsible for maintaining the grounds and landscaping at UMC clinics.
  • Completes daily route checks by rounding the hospital complex to check for and identify any maintenance issues
  • All other related assigned duties
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED + 2 years of experience with grounds work and minimum foundation in electrical and plumbing maintenance

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
  • Valid Texas Driver License with clean driving history
Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with various types of electrical systems, plumbing, painting, mechanical repair, and general building techniques helpful
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams
  • Able to perform basic installations and have foundational knowledge of power tools and maintenance/welding equipment
  • Excellent time management skills needed
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

Interacts on a daily basis with staff, visitors, and patients throughout the hospital

Physical Capabilities

Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Work involves prolonged standing, heavy lifting, and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis.

Environmental/Working Conditions

This position is mostly subject to outside environmental conditions, however, may be required to be indoors occasionally. May require frequent work with environmental hazards (i.e.; noisy environment, with infectious agents, near power supplies/machinery, etc.) Occasionally may require work with toxic chemicals. Danger from falls, cuts and abrasions is present. Subject to various shifts. Subject to call-backs at all times. Telephone is required.
