The groundskeeper will perform various landscaping and maintenance tasks including watering, fertilizing, deadheading flowers in container gardens and flower beds, and assisting in the renovation of over-established plant beds. Responsibilities also include weeding and mulching all established plant beds.
The role involves operating mobile electronic devices to access, update, and complete work orders, documenting actions taken, labor hours, parts, materials, and other relevant information. Groundskeeping duties span the college campus, including college buildings, dormitories, historic homes, and large facilities. The groundskeeper responds promptly to work orders to ensure timely resolution.
Activities include seasonal plant material changes, planting, transplanting, pruning, and applying fertilizers to trees, shrubs, and lawns. The role also involves operating blowers to clean up leaves and water, keeping walkways and beds free of debris, edging, mowing lawns, raking leaves, and transporting crews and equipment using college vehicles.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining power equipment, troubleshooting irrigation systems, practicing safety procedures per OSHA regulations, and ensuring work areas are clean and safe.
High School diploma or GED, with the ability to understand and follow routine instructions. Knowledge of landscape plants and irrigation systems is helpful. A valid SC driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days is required, as driving college vehicles may be necessary. Candidates with equivalent experience and education are encouraged to apply.
