The Groundskeeper IV (Senior Groundskeeper) performs highly complex groundskeeping work at a State Hospital. Responsibilities include maintaining grounds and flower beds, operating equipment, leading other groundskeeping staff, and ensuring safety and aesthetics of the hospital grounds. The role requires working under limited supervision and may include participating in disaster response or recovery efforts, with potential for work on maximum security locations.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attend work regularly and work scheduled shifts, including overtime if needed.
  • Perform groundskeeping duties such as mowing, trimming, fertilizing, planting, and maintaining grounds and flower beds.
  • Operate and train others in the safe use of power equipment.
  • Manage scheduling and oversee quality of groundskeeping work.
  • Initiate and execute beautification projects and ensure sprinkler systems are operational.
  • Ensure safety of roads, parking lots, sidewalks and manage nuisance animals humanely.
  • Perform general maintenance and collaborate with maintenance staff as needed.
  • Perform cemetery duties if applicable, including grounds maintenance and record keeping.
  • Participate in disaster response and other agency responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of tree removal and nuisance animal control.
  • Skills in horticulture, landscape design, and operation of power equipment.
  • Ability to read and apply regulations, perform basic math, communicate effectively, and lead others.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand or walk for extended periods.
Registrations, Licensure, and Certification

Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain one within 90 days of hire. Out-of-state licenses must be accompanied by a certified driving record.

Initial Screening Criteria

Minimum of 9 months experience operating power equipment and performing groundskeeping or related work. Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred.

Additional Information

Applicants must pass background checks, drug screening, registry checks, and meet immunization requirements. Age restrictions apply for certain facilities. Flexibility in work hours and overtime may be required.
