Job summary

The Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) is seeking a Groundskeeper III for Provo, Utah. You will perform lawn care, plant care, sprinkler upkeep, and equipment maintenance while supporting a team in a hands-on, outdoor setting.

The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, operating a variety of hand tools and lawn equipment, and potentially applying chemicals. On-site work with opportunities for growth within a large state agency.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Experience operating a range of hand tools and powered lawn equipment.
• Three years of landscaping and grounds care preferred.
• One year of pesticides/herbicides experience.
• One year of irrigation systems experience.
• Utah Pesticide Applicator license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Residence within 50 miles or 1 hour travel time to Provo location.

Responsibilities

• Mow, rake, water, and fertilize lawns.
• Plant, transplant, water, fertilize, and trim flowers and shrubs.
• Assist with sprinkler system maintenance.
• Maintain lawnmowers, snow blowers, and other equipment.
• May apply chemical products as trained; lead others when needed.
• Remove snow and support management with area responsibilities.

Job Details

FT / PT Status – Full-Time
Benefits Eligibility – This position is eligible for a full benefits package.
Salary – $18.40 - $28.59 Hourly Wage
Remote Work / In-Office – In-Office / On-Site

Key Responsibilities

• Mow, rake, water, and fertilize lawns.
• Plant, transplant, water, fertilize, and trim flowers and shrubs.
• Assist with general maintenance of sprinkler systems.
• Assist with preventative maintenance of lawnmowers, snow blowers, and other small groundskeeping equipment.
• May apply herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, and other chemical compounds.
• Lead other groundskeepers in functional supervisory roles.
• Remove snow.
• Acts as an expert resource for management, co-workers and others; provides support within area of responsibility, provides consultation and/or expert advice, makes recommendations, give appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions.
• The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as digging, shoveling, planting, trimming, climbing, lifting heavy objects, crouching, or crawling.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• The ability to lift 50 lbs.
• The ability to operate a variety of hand tools and powered lawn and automotive equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in landscaping and grounds care.
• 1 year of experience using pesticides/herbicides.
• 1 year of experience with irrigation systems.
• A Utah Pesticide Applicator's license. (If the selected applicant does not have this license, they will be expected to earn one within 6 months of hire.)
• Reside within 50 miles or 1 hour travel time to our location.

• Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with hazardous chemicals, etc.

Physical Requirements

• The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas.
• Must be available for On-Call.
• Must have (or be able to get) a valid driver's license.
