Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to care for lawns, trees, and plantings across campus. You will operate grounds equipment, support event setups, and assist lead staff as needed.

This role requires a valid Texas driver license, the ability to follow verbal instructions, and willingness to learn all equipment. Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm, on-site. A commitment to safety, teamwork, and adapting to weather and urgent campus needs is essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintains campus grounds, lawns, turf, planting beds, trees, shrubs, and seasonal color through mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, overseeding, weed control, mulching, planting, hand watering, and related landscape maintenance activities.
• Operates, transports, and maintains small and large groundskeeping equipment, vehicles, hand tools, and power equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chain saws, tractors, utility vehicles, forklifts, bucket trucks, and related equipment.
• Provides crew support and leadership by filling in for lead staff as needed, coordinating work assignments, managing crews in the absence of leads, training staff on equipment and vehicle operation, and completing work order requests.
• Maintains campus cleanliness and safety by collecting trash, leaves, recycling, debris, and dead animals; cleaning sidewalks, hardscapes, entrances, gutters, creeks, drains, and other exterior areas; and performing power washing and gum removal.
• Inspects campus grounds and facilities to identify and report irrigation issues, plant pathogens, diseases, insects, suspicious behavior or objects, and other campus concerns; performs minor irrigation repairs and supports maintenance of campus water features.
• Supports campus events, departmental projects, and special requests by providing labor for plant set-ups, barricades, banner installation and repair, greenhouse plant maintenance, Community Garden mulch and compost delivery, and other OFM project needs.
• Responds to campus needs and emergencies before, during, and after normal hours of operation, including fires, electrical outages, floods, icy conditions, and other emergency situations; provides directions and assistance to campus visitors as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Purpose of Position

Required Qualifications

• Valid Texas driver license.

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance and the operation of power equipment.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

• Ability to work in a team environment, observe safety procedures and follow verbal instruction.

Work Schedule

• Monday through Friday; 6:00am to 2:30pm
