Job summary

Viejas Casino & Resort is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain the property's landscapes under the direction of the Landscaping Manager. You will operate mowers, tractors, chain saws, rototillers, weed whips, trenchers, sod cutters, and backpack blowers to sustain the grounds of the casino and surrounding properties.

Responsibilities include reporting irrigation issues, pruning trees and shrubs, planting and soil care, and assisting with design, installation, and maintenance projects.

Qualifications

• Six months of related landscaping experience preferred.
• Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Able to work a flexible schedule including graveyard shift, evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate vehicles and power equipment to maintain casino grounds.
• Report irrigation problems and maintain landscape health.
• Prune trees, shrubs, and groundcovers using proper techniques.
• Assist in design, installation and maintenance projects within Landscape Department.
• Apply appropriate fertilizer, pesticides, or fungicides as required.
• Perform routine maintenance and make repairs with available tools.
• Ensure safety and adhere to company policies and SOPs.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Landscaping Manager, the Groundskeeper is responsible performing routine maintenance and landscape tasks for Viejas property.

Job Description

• Operates vehicle and power equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, rototillers, weed whips, trenchers, sod cutters, and backpack blowers to maintain the grounds of the casino and other surrounding properties.
• Reports irrigation problems on property that needs attention.
• Uses proper pruning techniques for trees, shrubs, and groundcovers.
• Participates in special projects in the Landscape Department including design, installation, and maintenance.
• Understands proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Uses proper landscape maintenance practices, for ornamental resort landscapes.
• Checks and reports in area of responsibility proper moisture levels of plant material.
• Uses correct fertilizer, pesticide, or fungicide for different plant materials. Hauls and spreads topsoil, stone, mulch, and other landscape materials.
• Performs routine maintenance tasks without supervisor.
• Makes correct repairs to trouble calls as soon as possible with tools and materials that are made available. Contacts supervisor promptly of any problems.
• Maintains grounds in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition.
• Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
• Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned.
• Does not provide supervision to other team members.
• Valid Driver’s License Required.
• Clean Driving Record Required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Six months of related experience and/or training preferred
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, and pruning saws.
• Knowledge of proper gardening techniques.
• Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Must be able to work flexible schedule according to business needs, including graveyard shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
