Job summary

Viejas Casino & Resort is seeking a Groundskeeper to perform routine landscape maintenance across the property. You will operate mowing and power equipment to keep grounds pristine and report irrigation issues as needed.

The role requires knowledge of planting, pruning, and safe landscape practices, and offers opportunities to participate in special landscape projects and installations. Flexibility for graveyard/evening shifts is expected.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Minimum six months related landscape experience or training preferred.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Operate mowers, tractors, chainsaws and other landscape equipment.
• Report irrigation problems and maintain proper moisture levels.
• Perform planting, pruning and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Assist in landscape design, installation and maintenance projects as assigned.
• Adhere to safety rules and company policies; complete tasks without direct supervision.

Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Landscaping Manager, the Groundskeeper is responsible performing routine maintenance and landscape tasks for Viejas property.Job Description• Operates vehicle and power equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, rototillers, weed whips, trenchers, sod cutters, and backpack blowers to maintain the grounds of the casino and other surrounding properties. • Reports irrigation problems on property that needs attention. • Uses proper pruning techniques for trees, shrubs, and groundcovers. • Participates in special projects in the Landscape Department including design, installation, and maintenance. • Understands proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs, and flowers. • Uses proper landscape maintenance practices, for ornamental resort landscapes. • Checks and reports in area of responsibility proper moisture levels of plant material. • Uses correct fertilizer, pesticide, or fungicide for different plant materials. Hauls and spreads topsoil, stone, mulch, and other landscape materials. • Performs routine maintenance tasks without supervisor. • Makes correct repairs to trouble calls as soon as possible with tools and materials that are made available. Contacts supervisor promptly of any problems. • Maintains grounds in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition. • Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines. • Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned. • Does not provide supervision to other team members. • Valid Driver’s License Required. • Clean Driving Record Required. • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Six months of related experience and/or training preferred • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. • Ability to use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, and pruning saws. • Knowledge of proper gardening techniques. • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment. • Must be able to work flexible schedule according to business needs, including graveyard shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays.Hiring PreferenceThe Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians is an equal opportunity employer.
