Job summary

Firelands Health in Sandusky, OH is seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper to maintain Main and South Campus landscapes, mow and trim lawns, plant trees and flowers, and keep entrances clean. You will operate tractors and power mowers and assist with irrigation and seasonal snow duties as needed.

Must have six months of groundskeeping experience, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in varied weather. Valid Ohio driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaping at Main and South Campuses: seed, sod, mow, trim, weed, and fertilize.

• Clean entrances, pressure wash where needed, and store tools properly.
• Report maintenance needs and assist Plant Operations during meetings.

What You Will Do

• Maintain landscaping at Main and South Campuses including the following: seed and sod lawns, prepare areas for planting trees, bushes, and flowers; mow and trim grass; remove clippings, leaves, and debris from grounds area; prune trees and bushes using hand and power tools; weed and fertilize; and apply pesticides and herbicides.
• Remove snow and ice from parking lots, walkways, and steps either manually or using a tractor.
• Maintain proper irrigation of flower beds, landscaping beds, and trees and grassy areas. Maintain potted plants located throughout the Main Campus, South Campus, and off-site buildings.
• Clean and detail entrances including pressure washing and glass cleaning.
• Operate small equipment to clean parking lots, following all safety precautions.
• Perform monthly PMs on cars, trucks, garden tractors, snow equipment and accessories. Is willing to shovel or plow snow and salt walks when necessary.
• Clean, maintain and ensure proper storage of tools used in daily job. Report any maintenance or repairs needed immediately.
• Function as a member of the Plant Operations team and assist when needed. Participate in staff meetings as required.

What You Will Need

• Must have at least six months or one season performing related groundskeeping work. Home yard work is not qualifying experience unless it is for a very large and detailed landscape.
• Must have knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, power lawn mowers, and other typical groundskeeping equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors most of the time; may work in adverse outdoor conditions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and be mobile.
• Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
• State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license. Commercial driver’s license preferred. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
• Ability to read and understand simple oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency codes.
• Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.
• Successful completion of a ninety (90) day probationary period.
