Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform landscape maintenance including repair, demolition, construction, installation, and care of plants, trees, turf, and related equipment.
2. Participate in tree, plant, and turf maintenance, installation, and care.
3. Install and maintain pavers and hardscapes.
4. Use landscaping industry standard equipment and tools.
5. Mow, trim, weed, and repair turf grass.
6. Mix and apply chemical herbicides and pesticides.
7. Participate in snow removal operations.
8. Maintain and repair college-owned equipment and tools.
9. Coordinate daily work with end users, subcontractors, and facilities staff.
10. Occasionally perform minor cement or asphalt patching.
11. Erect regulatory and information signage.
12. Support building maintenance as needed.
13. Maintain mowing and equipment maintenance records.
14. Assist in irrigation system programming, maintenance, and repair.
15. Assist in athletic field maintenance and preparation for games.
16. Perform daily outdoor trash pickup and work order completion.
17. Supervise temporary or student workers occasionally.
18. Report to work during emergencies and perform other duties as assigned.
19. Complete annual training and operate equipment safely.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months experience in turf maintenance, landscaping, or snow removal.
• Proficiency in required duties.
• Illinois Pesticide Operators license within 6 months of hire.
• Valid Illinois Driver's License.
• Experience in grounds equipment repair preferred.
• Illinois Pesticide Operators license preferred.

Working Conditions

Knowledge of grounds equipment, participation in winter snow activities, ability to lift 50+ pounds, and work in various weather conditions are required. Uniforms are provided, and a physical exam, background check, and drug screen are mandatory. Starting pay is $19.50/hour, with benefits including paid time off, tuition discounts, health insurance, and retirement plans.
